GC-MS ANALYSIS AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF STEREOSPERMUM FIMBRIATUM AGAINST SELECTED SKIN-ASSOCIATED PATHOGENS

Stereospermum fimbriatum (local name: “Chicha”) has been used traditionally to treat postpartum illness, stomachache, earache and itchy skin in Malaysia. This study was performed investigate the phytochemical contents of S. (flowers, leaves, twig stem bark) by phytochemicals screening GC-MS analysis as well determine their antimicrobial potential against eleven skin-associated pathogens. The extraction done soxhlet extractor using n-hexane (Hex), dichloromethane (DCM) methanol, successively. activity all extracts screened disc diffusion assay selected active were evaluated for minimum inhibitory bactericidal concentration (MIC & MBC). Phytochemicals such steroids, terpenoids, tannins, flavonoids saponins identified different plant parts fimbriatum. Hex DCM bark most potent especially three susceptible pathogens, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (13-15 mm), (14-15 mm) epidermidis (16 mm). range MIC values 0.4 0.8 mg/mL. showed presence numerous bioactive compounds. rich compounds exhibited antibacterial specifically Staphylococci sp.
